About the Production

This production of Romeo & Juliet will be an entirely new contemporary adaptation that reimagines Shakespeare’s tragedy through the urgent lenses of otherness, queerness, free expression, and the enduring tension between love and hate. Set in a modern urban landscape where identity is both weaponized and celebrated, this adaptation asks: What does it mean to love openly in a world that polices difference? And perhaps more importantly: What does it cost?

Through live music, original choreography, and a cast of dynamic young actors, this production will transform Shakespeare’s play from a familiar classic into an immediate, visceral experience that speaks directly to contemporary audiences—especially young people navigating questions of belonging, visibility, and resistance.
