Registration

I already failed the exam. Is this course worth it?Yes, and you're not unusual here. A significant share of our students come to us after an unsuccessful first attempt. You already know where your gaps are. What most people need is structure and focused work on the situational judgment items.
Who teaches the course?It's co-taught by SJSU faculty from our HR program and senior HR practitioners working in Bay Area organizations. The exam tests both knowledge and professional judgment, and the teaching team reflects that. Meet your instructors
Why don't you offer this online?We did. Our pass rates were materially lower, so we stopped. We'd rather you pass than have a more convenient class. The in-person format is the reason our outcomes are what they are.
Ten full Saturdays is a lot. Can I miss one?Life happens. If you miss a session we can get you time with an instructor to catch up, and of course read the course materials. But the format works because people show up, and our pass commitment requires attendance.
What are the study sessions?Optional instructor-led sessions between class meetings where you review quiz questions with an instructor. They're one of the most useful parts of the course and they're included.
Will I know if I'm ready before exam day?Yes. The final session includes a full practice exam and individual feedback on your readiness.
When should I sit for the exam?The December 2026-February 2027 window. The course is timed for it. Apply early - SHRM charges more after the early-bird deadline - and we'll walk you through the application in class.
Can my employer pay?Many participants are reimbursed by their employers. We provide a letter you can send to your manager laying out the cost, dates, and what the organization gets.
How should I pay?You can use a credit card to register online. You may also send a check.
Do you offer corporate discounts?Yes, if there are more than 3 attendees from one company, we can offer a corporate discount. Please contact us for details. Please contact us at institutepeopleperformance@sjsu.edu.

 

Cancellation

What is your cancellation policy?Registrants who cancel their registration before materials are ordered will receive a refund of the registration, less $250 administrative fee.

 

SHRM Learning System

Does the certification preparation fee include the SHRM learning system? Yes, the fee is inclusive of the the SHRM learning system.
 
What if I have already purchased the SHRM Learning system?If you would like to take the course, but have already purchased the SHRM Learning System, please contact us for alternative options.
Do I get both online study materials and hard copies?Yes. Online study materials will be made available within 2-3 days of registration. Hard copies of materials will be shipped to your home address.

Should I take the SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP?

Do I have to be an alumni of SJSU to join the program? No, you do not need to have graduated from San José State University in order to participate in the program.

 

Testing

Does the certification preparation fee include the testing fee/ cost of taking the exam?The exam fee is not included in the registration fee. Refer to the Exam Fees page, to learn about exam fee and testing windows.
