Guidance for modifying existing courses at San José State University.

Use this page if you are revising an existing course already listed in the Academic Catalog. (If you are proposing a brand-new course, use the New Courses page.)

Submit & Track Course Proposals (Curriculog)

All program proposals are submitted and tracked in Modern Campus Curriculum (Curriculog).

How Course Proposals Are Reviewed

  1. Proposal submitted in Curriculog
  2. Department and college review
  3. University-level review (as applicable)
  4. Catalog publication

Templates & Reference Materials

  • A course is designated a  course components & classification code to describe the mode of instruction, enrollment, and the Weighted Teaching Units (WTU) to be assigned to the instructor responsible for the course. View for more information.
  • To determine which course numbers are appropriate for use as you develop a new course:
    • Utilize the course filter at catalog.sjsu.edu in the "Course Descriptions" section for courses with the desired prefix or subject
    • View Course Numbers for information on numbering standards
  • Strong and assessable Course Learning Outcomes (CLOs) are connected to course assignments/requirements. 
  • View Syllabus Information for university policies relevant to all courses at SJSU.

Are you modifying courses in bulk? 

If you are modifying courses in bulk, e.g. changing all course prefixes, changing all course titles, prerequisites, etc., contact the Curriculum team to submit a *Memo/MOU Proposal instead of submitting a separate proposal for each course.
